The Workers | Canned Heat

Play

Brief

We were asked to film a choir covering the Canned Heat song Lets Work Together in The PowerHouse recording studio and to turn it into music video.

Our insight

We drew up a treatment for the video which included coverage of the artists in the studio as well as a fast moving but accessible narrative.

Solution

The recording studio filming was done within three days of the commission. We filmed the entire video on Canon 5 and 7Ds as we were not concerned with capturing audio, just great images. We started editing the film the night after the shoot and delivered - with an added animation sequence - five days later.

Results

Client was delighted with the result saying that we had got the tone just right. This film has currently 25,000 hits on youtube.

Solution

We filmed a selection of children on a green screen background. Children’s school images and animation were added in post production.

Different Jobs

Play

Brief

We were asked to produce an outstanding film to appear on a giant lobby screen in a new head office.

Our insight

We thought that a mix of CGI and real action would catch the eye of the people passing by.

Solution

As the lobby screen was so large we filmed green screen live action in 4K using high end Red Cameras. CGI backgrounds of vehicles and environments were added by our post production team.

Results

Our clients were delighted with the super realistic image. One person said it was "like looking through a window".

New NHS

Play

Brief

We were asked to produce a campaign film showing how the Government's changes to the Health Service may effect us all.

Our insight

We came up with the idea of filming our new NHS staff in airport type surroundings and dress them like air stewards. The film suggested that if you have the money you could upgrade the health service you receive just like a budget airline operation.

Solution

We filmed actors in a green screen studio over four days. None of the film was shot on location, it was all studio based. All post production was done in house to jaw dropping effect.

Results

Clients were amazed by the results considering the budget. The film was direct emailed out to 400,000 health staff and has currently over 60,000 viral hits on youtube. We were delighted with the finished piece.

Rights Removals

Play

Brief

We were asked to make a film to publicize the fact that the Government were cutting workers’ rights within the workplace

Our insight

We came up with the idea of having a removal firm called 'Rights Removals'. We would make the film about this removals firm coming into an office, but instead of removing the office furniture it would remove the rights of the staff.

Solution

We scripted the film with our client, cast the actors, confirmed our office location and, after rehearsals, filmed our short drama. It was expertly shot by James Bedford on a C300.

Results

The film was used at the forefront of the TUCs' Beecroft Rights Removals campaign.

Dream Soldier

Play

In development.

Dream Soldier (Dir. Ulrike Kubatta) is both a portrait of a unique young man from Liverpool and an exploration of themes of history, heroism and role-play. At its centre is Jonnie, a livewire Liverpudlian war re-enactor, with an almost quixotic obsession to perfect his portrayal of the war hero, Forrest Guth. Jonnie's life is defined by his desire to honour Guth, a charismatic sergeant from Pennsylvania, who served in E-Company and parachuted into Normandy on D-Day. The film takes the viewer on a series of journeys, following Jonnie, in his quest to discover his hero's life story.

Probation Service Today

Play

Brief

We were asked to make a film that showed why the probation service was important and how making probation staff rendundant would harm society. We were also asked to show different types of probation work.

Our insight

Initially we thought this could be one of our most difficult jobs. Showing probation staff could make for a very dry film with lots of offices. We decided to come from a completely creative angle and film a man travelling across town in the style of American TV programme '24'. This gave us our narrative into which we slotted our probation staff and their roles.

Solution

We filmed probation staff for two days and our ex offender for two days. Everything was shot on the Canon 5D. We created the '24' split screen effect in post and added specially created music for the film.

Results

The clients were initially taken aback as no one had made a film quite like this for the Probation Service before. They have since said that the film has been their most succesful ever and they are extremely pleased with its impact on audiences.
